3 Ways That You're Promoting Mold Growth When You Shower

Posted on

When you are ready to take a shower, you probably don't think about undesirable things like mold. However, you should know that some parts of your shower routine could be promoting mold growth in your bathroom. Since mold growth in the bathroom can lead to respiratory issues for you and the other people in your household, this isn't something that you should take lightly. Instead, you should focus on avoiding these common causes of mold growth next time that you take a shower.

1. You Aren't Turning the Fan On

Many people fail to turn the bathroom fan on before they get into the bathtub or shower, but doing so can cause problems over time. The fan is designed to pull moisture out of the air in your bathroom, and since this moisture can promote mold growth, this isn't a step that you should take lightly. Make a habit of turning the fan on each time that you enter the bathroom; then, you won't have to worry about forgetting. If you don't like the sound of the fan, or if you don't have a working one in your bathroom, then you should at least crack the window to allow some of the steam in your bathroom to escape.

2. You Don't Close the Shower Curtain Properly

If you're in a hurry, it can be easy to hop into the shower without closing the shower curtain all the way. However, doing so allows moisture to leak onto your bathroom floor. If you don't clean it all up, or if some of it seeps into the crack between your shower and the floor, then you can have big mold problems in the future. Make sure that you always take the time to close the shower curtain, and use a bath towel or bath mat in front of the shower door to catch any water that might escape.

3. You Don't Hang Up Your Towels

You aren't alone if you drop your wet towel on the bathroom floor after you get out of the shower, but doing so will do more than just make your housemates angry. Wet towels can release a lot of moisture into the bathroom, which can attract mold. This is why it's imperative to hang up wet bath towels on a towel rack as soon as you are finished with them.

If you make any of these three mistakes, you should know that there are plenty of others who do the same things. However, you should still get out of the habit if you don't want to deal with mold in your bathroom. If you have noticed mold in your bathroom, contact a company, like Advanced Air Quality Services, to remove it once and for all.
